Distinguished and Famous people from Wakool

🏉 Shane Harvey

Shane Harvey made a substantial mark on Wakool's football after his time in the AFL. The Golden Rivers league's official honour roll records him as its leading goalkicker in both 2006 and 2007, representing Wakool and passing a hundred goals in each season. Those totals place him in the club's competitive history through performances on its own grounds and against neighbouring teams. His country football contribution gave local supporters a different view of a player whose earlier career had taken him into the national competition: sustained scoring in the week-to-week life of a small community club.

🏉 Luke Kirkland

Luke Kirkland's country football career included a premiership with Wakool in 2013, followed by a 92-goal season there in 2014. The Southern Football Netball League recorded those achievements when reporting his later return to suburban competition. He had also played for several other country and suburban clubs and represented his league successfully in interleague football. Wakool's place in that career is a specific run of team success and prolific scoring. It belongs to the familiar country sporting story of experienced players bringing skills to a club and becoming part of a premiership remembered long afterwards.

🚒 Alesha Buckley

Alesha Buckley joined the Rural Fire Service in 2005 and became captain of Moulamein Town Brigade in 2022, after serving as its secretary. The brigade's work includes road-crash rescue as well as firefighting, a significant responsibility in a district where help can be a long way away. During the 2022 floods it also became somewhere residents could come for information, conversation and reassurance. Buckley's service received a Commissioner's commendation. Her contribution represents the broader former Wakool Shire area through the practical preparation and teamwork that keep a small river community equipped for emergencies.
