1. Sir John Monash

Sir John Monash was a civil engineer and military commander born in Dudley Street, Jerilderie, near Wakool, on 27 June 1865. He became one of the most distinguished commanders of the Australian Army during World War I. Monash played a significant role in various battles and is best known for his leadership during the Battle of Hamel and the Battle of Amiens. He later became an accomplished engineer and served as the vice-chancellor of the University of Melbourne. Sir John Monash is considered a great Australian military leader and one of the country's most celebrated figures.

2. Cecil Healy

Cecil Patrick Healy was born in Darlinghurst, Sydney, on 28 November 1881, but grew up in Wakool. Healy was an exceptional swimmer who represented Australia in several international competitions around the turn of the 20th century. He won a gold and a silver medal at the 1912 Stockholm Olympics, making him one of Australia's first Olympic gold medalists in swimming. Cecil Healy tragically lost his life in World War I while serving as a lieutenant in the Australian Imperial Force. He is remembered as one of Australia's greatest swimmers and Olympians.

3. Sir Isaac Isaacs

Sir Isaac Isaacs was the first Australian-born Governor-General of Australia and a prominent figure in Australian politics. Born in Melbourne on 6 August 1855, Isaacs spent his early years in Wakool before moving to Melbourne. He had a successful law career, serving as the Attorney-General and later Chief Justice of Australia. In 1931, he became the Governor-General and served in that role until 1936. Sir Isaac Isaacs played a pivotal role in shaping Australia's political and legal landscape.

4. Sir Murray Tyrrell

Sir Murray Louis Tyrrell was a wine pioneer and founder of the historic Tyrrell's Wines in the Hunter Valley. Although not originally from Wakool, Tyrrell was closely associated with the region through his family's farming interests. He was born on 23 December 1854 in Sydney and inherited his family's vineyard in the Hunter Valley. Sir Murray Tyrrell played a vital role in promoting Australian wines to the global market. His legacy continues as Tyrrell's Wines remains one of Australia's most renowned wineries.

5. Violet Teague

Violet Teague was a renowned Australian artist and illustrator, born in Melbourne on 15 March 1872. She spent a significant portion of her life living and working in the small town of Narrandera, which is near Wakool. Teague was known for her exceptional portrait paintings and book illustrations. Her paintings often depicted themes of nature and the Australian landscape. Violet Teague's artworks can be found in various galleries throughout Australia.
