Wakool National Events

As a small rural town in New South Wales, Australia, Wakool may not seem like a hub of activity. However, the town and surrounding area are actually home to several nationally or globally recognised annual events that draw crowds from near and far.

One such event is the Deni Ute Muster, which takes place in nearby Deniliquin each October. This festival, which began in 1999, celebrates all things Australian, with live music, ute competitions, whip cracking demonstrations, and more. The Deni Ute Muster has been named the Australian Event of the Year multiple times and draws tens of thousands of visitors to the region each year.

Another notable event in Wakool's vicinity is the Riverina Field Days, which take place in Griffith each May. This two-day event showcases the latest in agricultural industry technology and practices, with hundreds of exhibitors from across the country in attendance. Visitors can see demonstrations of machinery and equipment, attend seminars and workshops, and enjoy food and drink from local vendors.

For those who enjoy a good scare, Wakool is also home to the annual Hay Gaol Ghost Tour, which takes place in the nearby town of Hay. This after-dark tour of the historic Hay Gaol (jail) is led by paranormal investigators who share stories of the prison's haunted past. Visitors may even have the opportunity to participate in an actual ghost hunt during the tour.

Just a short drive from Wakool is the annual Junee Rhythm n Rail Festival, held each March in the town of Junee. This musical celebration features live performances from a variety of genres, as well as train rides on the heritage railway line and other family-friendly activities.

Finally, visitors to the Wakool area may also want to check out the Australian National Field Days, held each October in Orange, about 3.5 hours away by car. This three-day event is the largest agricultural field day in the country, with more than 600 exhibitors showcasing the latest in farming equipment, technology, and practices.

While Wakool itself may be small, the area around it offers a wealth of annual events and festivals that attract locals and visitors alike. Whether you're interested in agriculture, music, or the paranormal, there's something for everyone to enjoy in and around this charming rural town.
